Shared Opportunity Service, Inc. (SOS) is the non-profit 501(c)(3) that operates the Kent Family Center in Chestertown, Maryland. The agency was established in 1996 as a result of a local needs assessment that identified gaps in the family support services available in the community.
The center is the result of a partnership formed in 1999 between SOS and Friends of the Family Inc., a statewide network of 25 Family Support Centers in Maryland. Some of our programs are supported by funding from the Local Management Board and the United Way of Kent County

Located in Chestertown (in the green building) at 601 High Street with our main entrance and parking located on College Avenue. Our center includes on-site licensed child care in a 1500 sq. ft. child development room that provides parents with opportunities to interact with their children and practice parenting techniques. Our fully equipped kitchen is used to provide meals through cooking and nutrition lessons for our families. We have an adult education classroom with computers and internet access and a 35 person capacity meeting room that is available for community groups to hold workshops, presentations and meetings. Rental fee may apply.
On weekdays the center is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with daycare available at 7:30am extended hours until 9:00 pm for evening classes and meetings held by agency partners when scheduled on our monthly calendar.
